Why Mathemagicians Club?
Math Isn't Optional
Success in math is tied strongly to success in STEM careers. Confidence in math comes with strong foundations in elementary and middle school concepts and this strong foundation can be built only with relentless practice. There are no students who are inherently worse at math, only students who care to practice till they achieve mastery and students who are do not believe in themselves sufficiently to take that step. Mastery is not judged by whether one can do a problem correctly but whether they can do several without a single mistake and more importantly if they can repeat that success a week , a month or a year later. At Mathemagicians Club we believe anyone can do math and do it well. We help students build their math foundations by emphasizing on basic arithmetic skills, the building blocks. A child who is not confident in 2 digit additions cannot master 3 digit additions, a child who is not confident on multiplication tables cannot master division. When a child attempts to do a problem from a school homework, we first check to see if the child has mastered the needed building blocks to attempt and appreciate this new concept. If the child is not ready, we go back to the needed foundation blocks, review that before coming to the new concept. Younger children often forget concepts taught earlier, so going back and revisiting and reviewing the previously taught concepts is essential for math success. Teaching to only complete assignments or get through a test is never enough.
